SECTION 1: POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: PAUT (Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing), Inspector Level II

SECTION 2: KEY ROLE

• CSWIP PAUT Level 2 Inspector services in relation to NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) piping inspection using Phased Array UT, in accordance with industry standards (AMSE 31.4/31.8) for MBWJ spool fabrication onshore.
• Independent 2nd-party witness of inspection performance to ensure compliance with the project requirements, safety standards, and quality assurance processes.
• Review and approval of PAUT documentation & inspection reports, verifying that reports accurately reflect inspection results, procedures followed, and ensure proper documentation of all findings.
• Interpretation and analysis of PAUT data to identify defects, anomalies, or areas of concern in the piping materials and spools, ensuring they meet the necessary quality and safety standards.
• Coordination with the 2nd-party inspectors to provide guidance and support, ensuring inspections are carried out according to the project’s technical specifications and regulations.
• Ensure proper calibration of PAUT equipment and instruments, conducting necessary checks to verify equipment accuracy and functionality before inspections.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant local, national, and international standards, codes, and regulations for non-destructive testing (NDT).
• Reporting and documenting deviations or non-conformities found during inspections and ensuring corrective actions are recommended and tracked.
• Collaboration with project management and engineering teams to discuss inspection findings and contribute to decision-making processes regarding material acceptance or rejection.
• Providing expert technical support during audits, inspections, and reviews conducted by third-party parties or regulatory bodies.

SECTION 4.1: BASIC SKILLS

• Technical Knowledge of PAUT: Strong understanding of Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing principles, techniques, and applications, especially in piping inspection and MBWJ spool fabrication.
• NDE Standards and Codes: In-depth knowledge of industry standards, such as ASME Section 31.4/31.8, and other relevant NDE codes and practices for piping and fabrication inspections.
• Inspection Planning and Execution: Ability to develop and implement detailed inspection plans, including identifying the scope of work, selecting proper equipment, and ensuring inspection methodologies meet client specifications.
• Equipment Calibration and Operation: Proficient in calibrating PAUT equipment and instruments to ensure accurate data collection and analysis during inspections.
• Data Interpretation and Analysis: Expertise in interpreting PAUT data, identifying potential defects, and assessing the quality of welds, materials, and joints to meet safety and performance standards.
• Report Writing and Documentation: Ability to prepare comprehensive and clear inspection reports, documenting findings, deviations, and recommendations for corrective actions, in accordance with client and regulatory requirements.
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy, quality, and compliance in all aspects of the inspection process, from planning to final reporting.
• Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with team members, clients, and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, to explain technical findings, concerns, and recommendations.
• Team Collaboration: Capable of working closely with other inspectors, engineers, and project managers to ensure all inspection tasks are completed accurately and on time.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols and industry-specific health and safety regulations to ensure safe working conditions during inspections.

SECTION 4.2: TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid certificate CSWIP PAUT (Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing), Inspector Level II
• Valid certificate CSWIP UT (Ultrasonic Testing), Level II

SECTION 4.3: EXPERIENCE

• Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) Experience: Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in conducting Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) on piping systems, spools, and welded joints in onshore fabrication or construction environments.
• Experience performing PAUT inspections in accordance with ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, or equivalent standards for piping systems, focusing on critical applications such as MBWJ (Modular Bending Weld Joint) spool fabrication.
• 2nd-Party Witnessing and Independent Inspections: Proven experience in acting as an independent 2nd-party witness for inspections, ensuring that the performance of inspections by the 2nd party meets all contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements. Experience in observing and verifying inspection techniques, equipment calibration, and data collection methods, ensuring that the inspections adhere to the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
• Reporting and Documentation: Proven ability to review and approve PAUT inspection reports, ensuring that findings are properly documented, well-organized, and compliant with both client requirements and industry standards. Experience in preparing detailed inspection documentation, including calibration records, non-conformance reports, and corrective action recommendations based on inspection results.
• Calibration and Equipment Setup: Hands-on experience calibrating and setting up PAUT equipment, including troubleshooting issues, ensuring that all equipment is correctly configured for each specific inspection task. Experience in verifying the functionality of ultrasonic equipment, ensuring that all technical parameters are met to guarantee the reliability of inspection data.
• Industry-Specific Experience: Experience in industries where PAUT inspections are critical, such as oil and gas, petrochemical, or power generation, particularly in the context of piping integrity, safety, and regulatory compliance. Familiarity with the inspection and quality control standards required by major industrial players and governing bodies within the relevant sector.
