Scientist I - Next-gen sequencing, RNAseq & Olink proteomics
Lake County, IL
6+ month initial contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $32-35/hr (individual medical benefits available at a cost)
 
Orion Group is hiring for a Scientist to join our global pharmaceutical client’s Genomic Technologies Team in their Genomics Research Center, here in Lake County, IL.
In this role you will utilize genomic techniques to support clinical and pre-clinical research company wide. You will be required to independently generate precise, reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. The successful candidate will join the NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) Operations team within Genomic Technologies, which runs validated high-throughput NGS methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently conduct experiments that further project goals. This includes RNA sequencing from initial QC to data generation and completing samples through the Olink workflow.
  • Interpret results to evaluate data quality.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in the assigned workflows.
  • Understand and adhere to safety regulations and lab practices.
  • Accurately document work performed and prepare reports when required.
  • Perform troubleshooting for routine work and alert manager to any inconsistencies or errors or needed consultation.
Qualifications:

Technical Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific field or equivalent education with 5 years of experience
  • Experience performing NGS library preparation is highly preferred.
  • Experience performing Olink processing is highly preferred.
  • Experience performing NGS on the Illumina sequencing platform.
  • Experience using liquid handlers is preferred (including Formulatrix, Beckman, SPTLabtech and Eppendorf).
  • Experience using LIMS is beneficial.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out job function.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Works well in a multidisciplinary team environment
