Scientist II - AKTA RNA purification & cell-based assays
1 year initial contract

Hourly Pay Rate: $45-48/hr (individual medical benefits available at a cost)

The Biotherapeutics and Genetics Medicine department within Discovery Research is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join in the Genetic Medicine (GM) group at Company Bioresearch Center (ABC). The ABC site, based in Worcester, MA, offers a unique setting where GM, Biologics drug discovery, development and manufacturing coexist in one location. Our team interacts with multidisciplinary groups across Company focused on developing therapies for Immunology, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Oncology diseases.

As an integral member of the GM team this individual will perform research related to mRNA therapeutics to strength the platform and support various programs. The successful candidate is expected to have knowledge of RNA molecular biology, production, quality control, and cell-based assays. As one of the key team members, this individual will work with scientists across different functional groups and therapeutic areas to discover and develop next generation biologics through interrogation of RNA-related technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
* In vitro transcription to produce mRNA at different scales to support the platform development and therapeutic programs.
* RNA Purification using affinity chromatography (AKTA) and other strategies for purification.
* Quality control assays for mRNAs like electrophoresis, ELISA, qPCR, etc.
* Perform cell-based assays, such as cell culture, transfection, and flow cytometry.
* Work closely with the manager and cross-functional team members on multiple tasks with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data.
* Assist in ordering reagents from internal and external suppliers and communicating with CROs.
* Generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Read and adapt scientific literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate broad and versatile technical expertise within discipline.
* Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) in compliance with the Company Laboratory Notebook Policy.
* Stay updated and in compliance on all departmental and corporate training.

Key Qualifications:
* MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering or related field with 0-2 years of experience in biotherapeutics or genetic medicine or BS with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
* Hands-on experience with nucleic acid preparation, purification (AKTA), QC, and cell-based assays.
* Working knowledge of related tools/software (SnapGene, Prism, FlowJo, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
* Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
* High-quality written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
