Organic Chemist
$40/hr medical benefits available at a cost
1 year initial contract with possibility of extension
Standard first shift M-F, 8 hr/day; some flexibility in start and end times, no overtime offered.
100% onsite in Lake County, IL
Orion Project Services and a market leading pharmaceutical company have an exciting contract opportunity for Organic Chemists in Lake County, IL. Our client is excited to bring in candidates to join their collaborative programs in Neglected Tropical Diseases, particularly in tuberculosis.
The successful candidate will have an expertise in synthetic organic chemistry. If this is you than don't pass on this amazing opportunity!!!!
Organic Chemist Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
- Resolve organic synthesis challenges effectively, and proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into workflow.
- Conduct air- and moisture sensitive reactions on mg scale.
- Perform routine purification methods such as flash chromatography and preparative HPLC.
- Interpret NMR and MS spectroscopic data.
- Scientists are expected to keep accurate and up-to-date records, including an electronic notebook that documents research according to policies, and to demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in maintaining safe laboratory practices and scientific standards.
- Collaborations with functional and technical experts across disciplines will be required to facilitate scientific achievement.
Qualifications needed to be successful in this role:
- Master's Degree in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry with 5+ years experience, or PhD required.
Preferred:
- Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred.
What are the top 3-5 skills requirements should this person have?
- Experience in synthetic organic chemistry, including purification methods, air-sensitive reactions, small-scale techniques
- Able to work independently and manage time effectively
- Able to search and extract information (procedures, data) from the scientific literature
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations on their work and to communicate effectively with collaborators is required.
- Experience in pharmaceutical labs preferred
- Background in infectious disease research would be a plus
- Facility with molecular modeling packages such as Schrodinger, MOE, or Cresset and data analysis tools such as Spotfire or Stardrop would be beneficial but is not required.
