This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an industry-leading team that emphasizes safety, continuous improvement, quality execution, ethics, and compliance. This position will challenge you to apply your skills in a collaborative environment, alongside a diverse team of highly experienced industry professionals and mentors.

About the Role
The Occupational Health Lead plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and safety of the workforce. This position typically requires a registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing and several years of experience in occupational health. Primary responsibilities include monitoring employee health, conducting health assessments, and managing injury and illness cases.

Responsibilities also include developing and implementing health and safety programs in collaboration with the Industrial Hygienist, ensuring compliance with health regulations, and providing emergency care when necessary. Additionally, this role may involve supporting workers' compensation cases, managing claims, and coordinating with third-party administrators.

Effective communication skills are essential to educate employees on health and safety practices and to promote a culture of wellness. Leadership experience is often required, as this role may include supporting a team of First Aiders at the site, enabling positive health outcomes by providing science-based health expertise and prioritizing customer service. This will be accomplished by leveraging core competencies in health expertise, science, collaboration, and business acumen.

  • Demonstrate a relentless commitment to caring for people.
  • Show curiosity and passion for continuous improvement, with a focus on preserving and enhancing long-term asset value.
  • Exhibit pride in their work and interactions, recognizing the impact on health and safety, community, and environment.
  • Display adaptability and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Build strong, cooperative relationships across teams and with stakeholders, fostering a One Team approach that supports cross-functional collaboration.
  • Drive knowledge sharing, mentoring, and coaching to support team competency development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Health Advisor, working closely with the Health Organization to assess employee and business health needs and to develop health plans for specific populations or business functions.
  • Lead, deliver, and manage nursing and associated elements of the health plan.
  • Foster a matrix organization culture of both vertical and horizontal collaboration.
  • Meet established KPIs and maintain high clinical standards.
  • Prepare and deliver health and wellness initiatives for team members and contractors.
  • Oversee health records management and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with HR, HSSE, and safety committees to ensure policy and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee day-to-day clinical administration, including ordering medical supplies and ensuring safe storage.
  • Supervise and coach less experienced colleagues and contractors as needed.
  • Provide counsel and support to other team members in the HSSE department.

Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should have:

  • An Occupational Health certificate from an accredited occupational nursing program recognized in Canada.
  • A current permit to practice from the College of Registered Nurses (BCCNM) in good standing.
  • 5+ years of experience managing occupational health nursing services with a proven track record of delivering health outcomes in an industrial setting.
  • 3+ years of experience in Health Promotion and related programs.
  • Strong project management, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills to address diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work in a flexible work environment.
  • Experience collaborating and advising both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience, including managing a team of varied experience levels.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and continuous professional development.
  • Knowledge of the challenges associated with working in remote regions such as the Stikine area (Terrace/Kitimat).

Additional Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit).
  • Willingness to relocate to Kitimat or Terrace, British Columbia, if not currently located there.
  • Role start date between January 7, 2025, and March 4, 2025.
  • Standard schedule is 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, based at the Kitimat office.
  • Availability for emergency health support outside regular working hours if needed.
  • Compliance with a drug-free, harassment-free work environment, safety policies, and procedures.
  • Must pass a pre-placement medical assessment, background check, and pre-site access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • This role includes one full-time report (Health & WCB Advisor) and contract support as needed.
  • Note: This is not a fly-in, fly-out role.

Compensation and Benefits
