Scientist III - in vivo mouse models
Onsite in Irvine, CA
1 year contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $54-60/hr (Medical Benefits available at a cost)

Orion Group is seeking is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of Senior Scientist for our client's Biological Research Team in Irvine CA.

The successful candidate for this position will leverage their strong technical expertise in cellular and molecular biology for target validation and pharmacological characterization of therapeutics using in vivo models. She/He/They will independently conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions in a discovery research environment. The candidate will investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods and techniques to contribute to project goals.

Prior experience with in vivo models is required. Prior experience with models of the skin and/or hair is highly preferred.

The position requires the candidate to productively interact with cross-functional and matrixed teams. She/He/They will contribute to project science in area of expertise collaborating and communicating with discovery project team members at all grade levels and with diverse background, skill sets, and levels of expertise, while also developing productive collaborations with other groups across science disciplines.

The candidate will maintain a productive and inclusive collaborative laboratory environment consistent with department and company expectations. She/He/They must conduct all work activities in compliance with international and applicable regulatory requirements with strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
* Highly independent and motivated hands-on experimentalist demonstrating expertise in performing laboratory research.
* Routinely demonstrates scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities.
* Initiates new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable and can be directly incorporated into research program.
* Demonstration of proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies, especially complex in vivo rodent models.
* Maintain awareness of current developments in the field through comprehensive reading and analysis of the literature, incorporating ideas into research activities to further project goals.

Education and Experience:
* PhD (Cell/ Developmental/ Molecular Biology or equivalent education) and 0-3 years of postdoctoral industry experience is preferred. Master's degree (Biology or equivalent education) and typically 8 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree (Biology or equivalent education) and typically 10 years of experience.
* Experience with in vivo rodent models, and ex vivo tissue analysis is required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
* Proven theoretical and practical understanding of developmental/ molecular biology techniques and in vivo models is required, experience in skin biology and/or pharmacology highly preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
* Ability to work independently, while maintaining a collaborative mindset to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams.
* Ability to multi-task, set goals and adhere to timelines.
* Demonstrated excellent verbal and scientific writing skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Strong knowledge and technical expertise in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), qPCR, multiparameter flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and bioinformatics (ie. RNA-seq) is highly preferred.
* Demonstrates effective use of software, such as Word, Excel, data acquisition systems, document management software, data analysis software, etc.
