Job description
We have a current opportunity for a Senior Economist on a permanent basis. The position will be based in London with a leading international energy company.
You will be responsible for supporting the development of the Company’s strategic plans, monitoring their implementation; performing economic evaluations of projects; supporting the preparation of investment proposals, checking their consistency and monitoring the approved investment proposals; supporting the Company with the ceiling test process; maintaining and keeping updated the economic models used for regulatory reporting and for project financing and lenders reporting and implementing new economic model for emerging businesses and new initiatives. You will be working closely with regulatory bodies, senior management and cross functional teams, to ensure the business operates efficiently within the regulatory framework while optimizing economic outcomes.
As a member of the Finance department, you will be responsible for:
• Liaising with Technical departments in order to collate capital and operating costs for planning purposes, and with relevant HQ functions.
• Preparing all relevant data for presentation at monthly/quarterly meetings with management team.
• Coordinating the investment monitoring process and preparing investment monitoring releases.
• Ensuring that investment proposals produced within the Company are correct and consistent with Company strategy/plans.
• Compliance with procedures for Planning & Economic Evaluation, Investments Authorisation and M&A, ensuring their implementation and follow up.
• Providing economic evaluation for all investment and divestment decisions.
• Providing economic evaluations and reports in compliance with the requirements of the Regulator and lenders.
• Contributing to the collation of data to be submitted for periodic reporting to the regulator and lenders.
• Maintaining and keeping updated the Company economic evaluation models.
• Providing economic evaluation for corporate reporting in accordance with accounting standards and corporate governance requirements.
• Adherence to the Company’s Health, Safety & Environment policies, procedures and standards.
• Full compliance with company of Ethics and Compliance Model.
This is the opportunity for you if you have these skills and requirements:
• University Degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Management or equivalent.
• Previous experience working as an Economist in the Exploration & Production sector of the Oil & Gas Industry or UK regulated business.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and commercial frameworks.
• Familiarity with energy market dynamics.
• Proficiency in economic modelling, with excellent knowledge of MS office package, particularly Excel and Power Point.
• Numerate with a good understanding of money markets and foreign exchange.
• Proficient in English.
• Ability to work in team. Flexible and proactive. Good communication skills, written and verbal.
• Excellent analytical skills. Deadline orientated with the ability to work in a structured and methodical manner.
• Ability to work under pressure.
