Job description

Our client is a market leader in renewable energy, specializing in the development, design, and construction of large-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). With a strong commitment to sustainability, they have constructed over 120 grid-scale solar farms and 30 energy storage facilities, managing 1.6GW of assets across the UK and Northern Europe. Purpose of the Role
Due to significant growth, our client seeks a Civil/Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding EPC team, focusing on solar photovoltaic and BESS projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, construction, and maintenance of renewable energy installations, contributing to the transition towards a sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Design and Planning:
    Collaborate with engineering and project teams to design, develop, and implement grid-scale solar photovoltaic and battery storage systems. Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments, ensuring compliance with UK building codes and safety standards.

  • Civil Engineering:
    Oversee the design of foundations, access roads, drainage, and other infrastructure for solar farms and battery storage facilities. Manage geotechnical reports and supervise construction phases to ensure specifications are met.

  • Mechanical Engineering:
    Design and oversee the installation of mechanical components, such as solar panel mounting systems and HVAC systems. Evaluate materials and perform stress analysis on mechanical systems.

  • Project Management:
    Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth project execution. Monitor budgets, schedules, and project timelines while identifying and mitigating potential risks.

  • Quality and Safety Compliance:
    Ensure projects adhere to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and conduct site inspections to maintain quality standards.

  • Technical Support and Maintenance:
    Provide ongoing technical support for the operation and maintenance of solar and battery energy storage systems, troubleshooting any issues that arise.

Skills and Competencies

  • Educational Background:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress toward it is advantageous.

  • Experience:
    Experience in civil and/or mechanical engineering, preferably within the renewable energy sector. Proven track record in solar energy projects or large-scale infrastructure.

  • Technical Skills:
    Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Revit) and knowledge of BESS technology and solar photovoltaic systems.

  • Personal Qualities:
    Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to quality and safety.

  • Other Requirements:
    Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites across the UK.
