Purchasing Specialist II

(Supplier Diversity Analyst)

12-month contract to hire

M-F standard business hours

Hybrid Schedule (3days onsite)

North Chicago

$40-$43/HR



Orion Group is hiring a Purchasing Specialist to join our Pharmaceutical client's Procurement in North Chicago.

As a Purchasing Specialist you will be expected to facilitate setting and achieving supplier diversity spending goals and KPIs. You will support outreach and sourcing of small and disadvantaged suppliers, maintain relevant databases aiding category teams to include small and disadvantaged businesses in competitive sourcing events, evaluate new and existing suppliers to ensure they meet sustainability standards, and leverage analytic tools to drive data-driven insights.

Responsibilities:
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to define Supplier Diversity Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and spend goals and develop measurement plans to track progress.
* Provide weekly reports of supplier diversity metrics and work with internal stakeholders to mitigate/resolve outstanding requests.
* Research external data sources and compile data reports to understand industry trends, regulations, and best practices to improve the organization's supplier diversity program and to expand the network of small, woman- and minority-owned businesses.
* Participate in matchmaking events, trade fairs, and conferences to understand the products and services of diverse businesses and support events designed to increase our network of diverse suppliers.
* Evaluate new and existing suppliers to ensure they maintain fair labor practices, foster worker safety, protect the environment and actively assess and manage risk.
* Facilitate category teams on supplier diversity efforts during category strategy development, competitive sourcing events, and supplier outreach as required.
* Ensure relevant and accurate visualization of supplier diversity data by working closely with colleagues in the Procurement team.
* Assist teams with including relevant supplier diversity data in responses to RFIs/RFPs.
* Collaborate with category teams to achieve established diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals.
* Establish and maintain relationships with diverse supplier organizations, industry associations, advocacy groups, and NGOs to expand the supplier base and promote supplier diversity initiatives.
* Support organizational objective to achieve admission to the Billion Dollar Roundtable (BDR).
* Support annual Federal Small Business Subcontracting Program planning and reporting

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree with minimum of 8 plus years of relevant experience
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in cross-functional teams
* Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
* Ability to analyze & visualize data and compile actionable reports
* Ability to build and maintain relationships
* Understanding of Supplier Diversity KPIs
* Strong prioritization, planning, reporting, and organizational skills
