Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Environmental Manager on a contract basis. The position will be based in Afungi, Mozambique (28/28 rotation). For further information about this position please apply.

Activities

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE requirements across works to promote a healthy and safe work environment. Ensures effective management of TEPMA1's environmental team on-site including consultants supporting the Project.
  • Ensure compliance with Project environmental standards (including regulatory and lender) e.g. Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), Environmental Licenses, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
  • Act as lead interface with relevant project and Contractors team members regarding environmental management, compliance, audits, monitoring and associated activities, providing environmental and regulatory advice as required.
  • Work with Contractors to ensure environmental plans, procedures and method statements are suitable, and monitor implementation to ensure compliance.
  • Provide environmental advice and solutions related to aspects such as permitting/ licensing, air quality, noise, waste, hazardous materials, biodiversity, soil, drainage, erosion and sediment control, water quality, waste and rehabilitation.
  • Establish a Verification and Assurance program and develop the necessary tools to support the implementation of such.
  • Responsible for onsite environmental risk management, i.e. identification and implementation of measures to manage risk.
  • Monitor ESMP implementation for conformance. Monitor controls are effective and drive improvements in environmental performance.
  • Support internal, Government, private, and lender Audits as necessary.
  • Coordinate EMP implementation/E&R performance monitoring activities regarding environmental matters with Site Construction Team.
  • Owner of environmental data collected from the field. Establish and manage robust environmental data management systems.
  • Provide on-going QA/QC of environmental data and reports, e.g. contractor environmental monthly reports.
  • Develop environmental performance metrics, analyze and report trends to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Environmental performance reporting as needed (e.g. daily field reports, input into resettlement monthly reports, bi-annual environmental performance reports, verification and assurance etc.).
  • Ensure documentation and records management processes are maintained for tracking of environmental compliance and performance.
  • Undertake regular data analysis to identify and highlight requirements or opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Responsible for ensuring all environmental incidents are managed in accordance with project's incident management process.
  • Maintain an up-to-date action tracker with actions resulting from incidents, audits, inspections, environmental observations, etc.
  • Maintain environmental training matrix for contractors and project staff and coordinate and provide training on environmental topics
  • Develop environmental training materials in accordance with ESMP requirements and deliver environmental training to raise environmental awareness within the workforce and monitor the effectiveness.
  • Schedule and lead collation of toolbox talks and environmental awareness campaigns (internal and external).

Accountabilities

  • In-field development and implementation of all ecology management/monitoring tasks
  • Implementation of site reclamation requirements


Qualifications/Experience required

  • 10 to 20 years of related experience is required. - University degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering or some other technical field related to E&R management
  • Experience regarding the environmental field preferably related to a construction or extractive, particularly O&G industry project
  • Knowledge of Mozambique regulations desirable
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills required. Familiarity with Portuguese is desirable
