Role: Lab Leader CSS
Digital/Non Digital: Non Digital
Contract Length: 12-months

The purpose of the post is to manage and deliver the analytical work programme requirements of the Client's site decommissioning programme. The job holder will manage the day to day operations of the laboratories under their control within the terms of the authority to operate.
Main Responsibilities:
Ensure sample preparation, routine analysis and reporting is undertaken and delivered for regulatory and project decommissioning analysis, meeting all relevant defined chemical support services deadlines
Ensure operational delays are minimised by identifying and rectifying constraints leading to unplanned downtime
Report possible non-compliances to the team leader and propose and deliver corrective actions to close out non-compliances
Undertake and deliver method development, method validation and uncertainty estimation in the laboratory, managing analyst resources in support
Manage the preparation and review of technical documents
Support the quality manager in developing, maintaining and reviewing the chemical support services quality management system
Support the team leader in non-routine and emergent sample preparation, analysis and reporting is undertaken to support decommissioning and bonus targets, balancing resources as necessary to deliver to customer deadlines
Ensure safety checks are completed, reported and appropriate action taken
Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, 17020 and maintenance of UKAS accreditation, where relevant, including managing the delivery and reporting of the required laboratory inter-comparison exercises
Interact with customers, regulatory bodies, internal and external auditors
Provide performance monitoring on internal performance against safety and quality, identify deviations and implement remedial actions as appropriate
Provide results and reports to customers
Maintain relevant analytical proficiencies
Undertake audits on UKAS aspects of the quality management system
Be responsible for nuclear material accountancy in the relevant laboratories
Perform the responsibilities of management and safety related appointments relevant to the post
Manage staff as a Line Manager
Qualifications & Experience
HND in Science or equivalent qualifications plus experience
Considerable analytical laboratory experience
Relevant radiochemical and chemical knowledge and experience
Mass spec knowledge and experience would be advantageous
Good oral & written communication skills
Team worker and able to interact effectively with staff at all levels
Good organisational and planning skills
Self motivated and flexible
Ability to work under pressure and to time deadlines whilst maintaining quality of output
