Job description

A Principal Pipelines Engineer is required to support worldwide projects, providing technical leadership within the pipelines discipline. This role will be based in Basingstoke, UK, as part of our client's project engineering group, supporting pipeline activities across various project phases.

Responsibilities:

Perform engineering design activities for onshore and offshore rigid pipelines throughout all project phases, including Concept Selection, FEED, ITT Preparation, and follow-up during the execution phase. Collaborate with colleagues within the pipeline department and across the organization. Work on both brownfield and greenfield projects, as well as within carbon capture initiatives.
Serve as the Project Design Lead on large projects, managing and directing a team of discipline engineers and designers, and ensuring the quality of pipeline work. Supervise the preparation of project deliverables and manage discipline resources, including man-hours, in alignment with the Chief of Department. Depending on the project's size, delegate supervision and specific checking activities to competent personnel.
Oversee, review, and check pipeline activities on a project, including philosophies, specifications, routing studies, mechanical design (wall thickness, buckling, spanning, expansion), calculations, stress analysis, on-bottom roughness, global buckling, walking analysis, tie-in and expansion loops analyses, crossing design, hot tapping, trenchless methods (HDD, microtunneling, etc.), layability analyses, etc.
Support CAD designers in the execution of layouts and project pipeline drawings.
Prepare datasheets and technical requisitions, compile ITTs, and perform bid evaluations. Identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from original proposals or contracts by raising technical queries with projects or clients. Identify deviations against company standards and raise them with the Chief/Technical Authority.
Validate the pipeline inspection and maintenance strategy and define emergency pipeline repair and service studies.
Perform site visits to manufacturers (line pipe, coating, valves, etc.) as required.
Review design and installation activities carried out by third parties during the project execution phase.
Act as a technical specialist for pipeline design activities.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the pipeline department.
Liaise with other disciplines (e.g., process, material and corrosion, flow assurance, instrumentation, civil, construction, and commissioning) during the project execution phase.
Stay updated on pipeline design standards requirements and ensure the correct application of the company's HSEQ policies.
Regularly review the suitability and accuracy of technical standards and procedures, and develop new ones as required.
Undertake short-term visits to a wide range of operating sites and regional offices worldwide.
Stay informed about new legislation related to plant design and performance.
Ensure a high standard of safety is maintained and environmental and quality assurance processes are followed.
Knowledge and Experience:

Experience in the oil and gas industry with respect to rigid offshore and onshore pipelines.
Knowledge of software such as DNVGL pipelines design suite (SESAM pipeline package, PET, AutoPipe, SAGE Profile, AGA) is mandatory.
Knowledge of software such as Ansys, ABAQUS, and Orcaflex is desirable.
Familiarity with UK and international specifications and codes (BS, DNV, ISO, API, and ASME) is desirable.

Willingness to act and develop into a high-level technical expert.
Qualifications:

Ideally, degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline such as Pipeline Engineering, Subsea Pipeline Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
