The Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) at client is a former test and development nuclear power station now undergoing decommissioning. To support the decommissioning programme over the duration of the programme several infrastructure upgrades and new facilities are required as well as demolition of existing support buildings. This includes the following:

  • Replacement and repairs to external building fabric

  • Maintenance of building structures

  • Construction of a new ventilation plant room and tie into existing facilities

  • Demolition of disused store buildings and construction of a replacement modern standards store

The balance of projects will include scope where PFR is acting as both the Client and Principal Contractor CDM roles as well as acting as the Client with an appointed Principle Contractor. An experienced Construction Site Manager is required to support the PFR team and contractor staff to supervise the overall construction safety envelope and interfaces

Core requirements of the role:

  • Develop construction site management strategies and plans, optimising plans to respond to changes when necessary

  • Create, implement and maintain integrated programme baselines and strategies for the overall construction phase works, taking into account analysis of dependencies and constraints, scope, risks and assumptions

  • Implement organisational governance structures for projects, ensuring application of CDM requirements and Temporary Works Requirements

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to expedite safe project delivery

  • Monitor and report on internal and contractor performance against safety, costs, programme and quality, identify deviations and implement remedial actions as appropriate

  • Apply appropriate construction site management techniques and configuration measures

  • Review and accept handover documentation and project handover on behalf of client

  • Efficiently manage the construction site within the bounds of the construction phase plan and safety envelopes

  • Review and report on identified problems and incidents, establishing causes and identifying, recommending and implementing solutions

  • Ensure that in instances where the contractor does not adopt client's safety management requirements then the contractor safety management arrangements are of at least an equivalent standard to client's

  • Ensure that any major contractors who are operating or maintaining client's facilities are competent to client's standards and appointed as required to the appropriate Safety & Environmental Related Positions.

Skills/Experience:

  • Experience of construction site management

  • Site Manager Safety Training Scheme

  • CDM Compliance

  • Temporary Works Coordinator

  • Requires relevant NPORS/CITB training and construction industry experience including coordination of complex construction sites with multiple contractors
