Job description

Orion Group are working with a well-established, Inverness based client who are recruiting for the position of Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team.

The Quantity Surveyor/Senior QS will play a key role in managing projects within civil engineering, renewables, and road & bridge works. Simultaneously, the role involves expanding the client base, identifying profitable opportunities and supporting the growth of current business relationships in environmental and building works.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Form part of the construction team for specific contracts.

  • Assist financial and contractual control over the contracts allocated.

  • Undertake the re-measurement of all trades specific to each contract.

  • Prepare interim applications for payment.

  • Value all relevant and valid variations to the contract for inclusion in applications for payment.

  • Prepare and process supplier/sub-contractor payments.

  • Assist the Site Manager placing material orders.

  • Produce correspondence of a contractual nature in consultation with the Commercial Manager.

  • Attend all progress/team meetings as considered necessary.

  • Developing and maintaining good professional relationships with colleagues, suppliers, subcontractors, clients and their representatives.

  • Regularly updating the Director/Commercial Manager of any potential commercial threats and opportunities.

  • Provide any other reasonable duties as requested by the Director/Commercial Manager.

Performance Measures

  • Achievement of commercial and operational targets.

  • Provision of accurate financial information.

  • Avoidance of any significant contractual disputes.

  • Relationships with key external and internal business contacts.

Skills & Experience

  • 5 years relevant commercial experience in civil engineering.

  • The ability to negotiate terms, conditions and final accounts with sub-contractors, suppliers, clients and/or their representatives.

  • The ability to financially and contractually control construction projects.

  • Have detailed knowledge of construction techniques and principles.

  • Have detailed knowledge of the industry's most commonly used conditions of contract.

  • Excellent communication skills.
