Scientist I - Genomic Research
Onsite in North Chicago, IL
3+ month initial contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $23-26/hr
A Scientist I position is available at our client's Genomic Research Center in Lake County, IL. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to work independently and in collaboration with other scientists in projects involving human induced pluripotent stem cells reprogramming, cell differentiation, CRISPR editing, and high throughput functional screenings. The successful candidate will be involved in critically timed experiments and long differentiation protocols that require daily attention.
The applicant is expected to:
* Conduct routine wet lab experimental protocols and procedures.
* Maintain cultured stem cells and stem cell-derived cells
* Keep an accurate record of experimental setup, SOP protocols, and data quality control notes.
* Maintain efficient and continuous communication with team members and managers.
* Support team members with basic routine cell culture procedures including media preparation and reagents aliquoting.
What hours and days will this person be working?
* Monday to Friday, with expectations to work on weekends and some holidays.
What are the top 5 skills/requirements this person is required have?
* Required Skill 1: significant cell culture expertise: maintenance, freezing, thawing, and passaging.
* Required Skill 2: Biochemistry such as: Western blot, Immunofluorescence, flow cytometry
* Required Skill 3: molecular biology such as: RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, RT-QPCR
* Optional Skill 4: Gene editing using CRISPR technology
What years of experience, education, and/or certification are required?
* BS degree or master's degree in biological sciences, molecular biology, neuroscience, or biochemistry and significant 2-3 years tissue culture experience are a must. (Or a master's degree with at least one year of experience).
* The applicant should already be trained in proper wet lab procedures and should be familiar with using basic lab equipment.
* Having strong communication, organizational and documentation skills is a must.
What is a nice to have (but not required) regarding skills, requirements, experience, education, or certification?
Having experience in stem reprogramming, maintenance and cardiomyocytes differentiation is highly preferred.

* The candidate will be involved in a highly enthusiastic, motivated, supportive, and diverse team. The candidate will be involved in multidisciplinary projects across different teams in GRC and is expected to work independently and support the team.
