Senior Engineer (Technical Safety) - Basingstoke, UK (hybrid)

We are seeking a Senior Engineer (Technical Safety) in Basingstoke, UK. You will be responsible for ensuring that safety in design is prioritised in all our projects. This role requires an individual who can champion safety requirements, ensuring that facility design and project management consistently meet these standards. Strong interfacing skills with other engineering disciplines and project management, including effective persuasion abilities, are essential.

As a Senior Engineer in Technical Safety, you will perform design work and/or lead activities for assigned projects. This includes managing work and resources, providing technical leadership, producing deliverables, contributing to schedules, and leading key safety reviews across all project phases from feasibility through Detailed Design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analysis, calculations, and engineering studies, producing technical safety deliverables in accordance with standards and international codes.

  • Demonstrable experience in producing deliverables related to:

    • Loss Prevention Activities (e.g., F&G Design, Active/Passive Fire Protection, Hazardous Area Classification)

    • Risk Analysis (e.g., QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, Flare/Vent Studies)

    • Development of HSE-related Philosophies

    • Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) Studies

    • HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments

  • Supervise and mentor subordinates to ensure technical standards and production schedules are met.

  • Review and approve documents and drawings in accordance with departmental procedures.

  • Provide technical support and guidance in safety design requirements.

  • Coordinate and expedite discipline or multidisciplinary interfaces for assigned responsibilities.

  • Participate in the development of company standards and procedures.

  • Assist with manhour estimates and planning for proposals and projects.

  • Stay updated with technical developments, standards, and methods.

  • Actively participate in technical safety reviews, including HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Significant knowledge of technical safety aspects within the energy business.

  • Extensive experience in Risk Identification and Assessment.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical Engineering), accredited by a relevant chartered engineering institute (e.g., IChemE).

  • Ability to work effectively within a close team, particularly in Safety Systems and other engineering departments. Projects may involve onshore/offshore oil and gas production facilities, LNG, CCS, and renewables.

  • Chartered Engineer or certified process safety practitioner status is preferred.
