Job description

Our client has an opportunity for a Transport Manager to join their well established, family-owned business on a full-time, permanent basis.

As Transport Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of our products to customers. Forming part of the management team, with responsibility for looking after the company's transport management and fleet compliance.

This is a hands-on management role, working closely with other Managers within the business.

Main Responsibilities

  • Leading the Transport Operation through effective leadership, communication and development of the wider team, whilst driving a culture of high performance, safety and compliance.
  • As the named CPC holder on the operator licence, ensures that driver and fleet compliance is in line with legal and Company standards
  • Support Depot Managers with the management of drivers, ensuring all health and safety requirements are adhered to, driver walk round checks are completed daily, vehicles are operated in a safe and legal manner, and Company standards are followed at all times.
  • Assist Depot Managers liaising with appointed garages used for our vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicles are timeously inspected and repaired with as little down-time as practical and maintained to a Roadworthy Condition.
  • Maintain compliance with all records of vehicle inspections, licenses, driver hours and other documentation required by law.
  • People management including booking training for CPC, assisting Depot Managers with performance management, absence management and disciplinary actions.
  • Liaise with Company insurance
  • Lead a team of transport professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to achieve operational excellence.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve transport efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining high safety standards.

Experience & Qualifications

  • A Transport Manager's CPC is required for this role (candidates without a CPC are still encouraged to apply if they are willing to obtain it)
  • Proven experience in transportation management or a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and best practices desirable
  • Understanding of legislation - weights and measurements and working hours
  • Excellent leadership and ability to communicate at all levels
  • Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions
  • Computer literate
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
