Job description

Our Oil & Gas Operator client is seeking an experienced Data Engineer for an ongoing PAYE contract based in Aberdeen. Candidates must be able to work from the Aberdeen office 3 days a week and have a valid Right To Work for the UK that covers a long term contract role.

The Senior Data Engineer plays a crucial role in the utilization of data as an asset within the business.

You will be responsible for developing robust and reusable data engineering solutions, supporting long-term goals, and maintaining data engineering platforms.

Responsibilities:
* Provide guidance on data engineering capabilities to business stakeholders and the data engineering community.
* Liaise between business key users and the Data Engineering Function for investigating, analysing, and implementing cloud-based data engineering solutions.
* Ensure adherence to best practices within the data engineering community as per the Technical Framework.
* Create end-to-end solutions for new and existing data engineering projects.
* Develop data manipulation services using technologies like machine learning, stored procedures, ETL, Python, etc.
* Conduct proof of concepts and explore innovative cloud solutions.
* Manage complex incident resolution on productionized data engineering solutions.
* Optimize production services and align them with best practices to protect production data.
* Support automated Business Intelligence reports and Data Science projects in collaboration with stakeholders.
* Ensure support for TEPUK's productionized Digital products.
* Work with IS platform teams to define and develop Data Engineering support processes.
* Assist in defining data engineering strategy, solutions, and roadmaps.
* Identify new data engineering techniques, tools, or best practices, and integrate them into the data engineering community.
* Participate in security, software component, and cost optimization reviews for cloud applications.

Experience & Qualifications:
* Numerate honours degree (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering) with industry experience.
* Ability to develop functional specifications for business requirements.
* Experience in writing production-strength data pipelines.
* Strong scripting skills, preferably in Python.
* Strong SQL knowledge.
* Familiarity with distributed computing, data/application architectures, networking, security, and infrastructure.
* Experience with cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure components and Azure Data Factory.
* Knowledge of cloud-based data ingestion, storage, and transformations.
* Experience with ETL technologies and integration of cloud services with on-premise sources.
* Understanding of the Upstream industry and its strategic drivers.
* Knowledge of multi-tier, high availability, cloud, and on-premise data engineering solutions.
* Experience working with Power BI-based reporting environments.
* Experience working in Agile-based teams.
